We had a very busy first half term of 2024, if you can step outside and explore the local woodlands and footpaths, it might distract you from your busy life. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful place. Being outside can help to lift our mood and bring calmness and help to spark creativity and joy. There is so much to see from the tall trees to the smallest shoots or you can just sit under the trees and do nothing, which sounds perfect.
Kit and Yarty have been exploring their senses and the site finding shapes and items with different textures. The water was wet, the leaves were crunchy. As it’s a good time of year to help our garden birds we made feeders, Apples with sunflower seeds, and Pinecones with lard and seed were both created to hang around the site. We thought about how birds move and how they talk to one another.
Axe and Corry have also been exploring their senses. We had a great session where there were three activities, the children had to work in pairs and find items with different textures. Then they went on a scavenger hunt to find items that were fuzzy, smooth, and rough. Then they explored the site playing in mud and found feathers and different textured items. We had a fire where we cooked pancakes and used our sense of smell as Miss O had 4 smells to guess in pots. Garlic was easy to recognise but not everyone recognised the 3 others.
The Forest School Notice board has been updated and given a wintery feel. If you are popping into school take a look and see what the children have been up to. Each class member has drawn upon an oak leaf their favourite activity in Forest School, which we used to create our special Forest School Tree.
Please remember to bring a waterproof coat and Wellies or a change of clothing /full waterproofs, as we try and go outside as much as possible even in showery weather. We are lucky to have the mud kitchen and field, which we use in our sessions and the children have so much fun on the tyre swing.
The After-school club also runs on Mondays. We have lots of activities on offer. We often have a fire, with treats and use tools. Of course, we make Dens and play in the Mud too. We offer craft activities as well. BOOK HERE
