Allington and Coneygar classes have enjoyed Forest School this half term – We have had a mix of weather this half term giving us sometimes 4 seasons in 1 day!
Year 1 started this half term with an exciting visit to the edible garden where we pond dipped and even managed to see a newt! We looked at British amphibians and the life cycle of the frog. Have you seen any frog spawn yet? The children spent one week bird watching and listening to the bird song around our school and we have even hunted for mini-beasts around our Forest school finding lots of exciting creatures! The penultimate session was enjoyed by us all we looked at different trees and went on a blind fold walk with a partner to feel the different types of bark – this was great fun and full of trust for one an other!
Year 2 have enjoyed shelter building this half term working in teams to build a shelter to keep them dry, they have searched for insects around the school grounds – we found centipedes and millipedes and learned some great fun facts! DID YOU KNOW.. .. snails have 4 noses! The class looked at the tools we use in forest school and how to use them safely. The children also took a blind fold walk to feel the different types of bark on the trees in our school – we found smooth, rough and bumpy trees.
Our final session for both classes will include some fire striking practice and a fire where we will roast our marshmallows – weather permitting!
I hope all of the children have enjoyed Fores School this half term?
